FRIENDS OF THE REFUGE ENDORSES MEASURE 76
Set for November 2 General Election Ballot
Aug, 5, 2010
The Board of Directors voted to formally endorse the measure which would enshrine in the state Constitution the 15 percent allocation of Oregon Lottery proceeds to parks and natural areas. That 15 percent set-aside has been in effect for more than a decade, thanks to voter approval of a 1998 ballot measure. But the set-aside will expire in 2014, unless Oregonians vote to continue it. The Friends of the Refuge joins the main organizational backer of the campaign, the Nature Conservancy, and a host of other environmental and citizen advocacy groups to work for the constitutional amendment.
Constitutional amendments need 110,358 valid signatures (as Initiative Petition 70) to reach the ballot, and in late July, Secretary of State Kate Browns office officially certified the signatures for the November 2, 2010 General Election ballot.
